Exequiel Palacios is enjoying an excellent season with Bayer Leverkusen.

Deployed as a central midfielder in a 3-4-2-1 formation, the 25-year-old Argentine has done an exceptional job of providing the heartbeat to Bayer Leverkusen’s eye-catching possession-play. His top-class ball retention, press-resistance and link-up passing have made him a key figure in helping his team build out from the back and securely progress the ball through the thirds.

At the same time, Palacios has not only gone on to add significant attacking output in the final third but has also offered great defensive quality to play a key role in Leverkusen’s rest defense.

All in all, the former River Plate man has clearly evolved into an incredibly well-rounded midfielder. Xabi Alonso will undoubtedly be glad to have a player like him in his squad.
