smarterscout is a fast, easy-to-use platform for evaluating the performance of football players around the world. It uses algorithms developed by Dan Altman at North Yard Analytics to assess players' contributions to winning, their playing style, and their skill levels. Plus, smarterscout has the ultimate tool for football transfers: adjustment factors to predict how a player in one league might succeed in another. Data-driven scouting isn't just for big clubs any more – now anyone can do it!
The smarterscout platform is part of a suite of tools for football analysis from North Yard Analytics. Right now smarterscout covers 55 leagues around the world, including six second-tier leagues for Premium and Pro members, and 15 first-tier leagues for Pro members, who can also access the third and fourth tiers in England and Wales and the second tiers in Brazil and Mexico.

- attacking contribution based on two models of expected goals
- defending contribution based on two models of expected goals
- ball retention
- eight aspects of playing style
- skills in aerial and ground duels
- shooting and saving skill
- shot quality and scoring metrics
- statistics on involvement in moves leading to shots and goals
- fantasy league metrics including average minutes played, simulated scoring, and team goals conceded – all home and away
Members can search our database with these metrics or by using a specific player as a model. It's also easy to compare players side-by-side with our cutting-edge visuals! All members can use our unique smartermaps to see where players touch the ball and the actions they attempt. Premium and Pro members have access to our shot maps as well.
On every player profile and search results page, Premium and Pro members can see badges for high performers, breakout seasons, and young prospects flagged by our exclusive algorithm calibrated to a decade of debuts in Europe's top five leagues. Pro members can filter their searches with these badges, as well as using the unique smartersearch and seeing all the metrics for an entire squad on one screen. Pro members also have access to our exclusive xGAR (expected goals above replacement) metrics.
